Well gang the weekend is almost here and the best part of the weekend is of course Market shopping.
Ah where would us stingy followers be without our wonderful markets? Where we can buy a wide variety of one of kind pieces for either insanely huge or insanely cheap amounts of money.
The problem with Markets however is that you really do need to sort through a few places who will try very hard to rip you off. For example once I was at Glebe Markets to find a store selling one of a kind “enamel” cherry themed necklaces.
One of a kind my Aunt Fanny, the same necklaces were being sold for half the cost at The Reject Shop.
Yes the Reject Shop.
So what’s a girl to do?
My advice is to avoid anything “new” and go for vintage pieces. Glebe Markets held at Glebe Point Primary school has an excellent stall that specialises in genuine vintage jewellery.
The necklace pictured is a beautiful piece from the fifties that I refer to as my “ Angelina Butterfly” necklace, it only cost fifteen dollars and sure it isn’t worth that much but it really looks nothing like the stuff you’ll find today.
The stall is run by a young Indian woman and is usually at the back of the markets underneath one of the trees.
If you live out west however the Sunday Trash and Treasure Markets at Bankstown Race Course are rather fun. Ok so its hot crowded and dodgy but inside you can find hundreds of old ladies selling fantastic vintage necklaces and purses, just well avoid the kebab stall.
Finally the best vintage Market in Sydney is without a doubt Roselle Markets located at Roselle primary school. Sure the stuff isn’t exactly dirt-cheap but it’s genuine real vintage as apposed to glitter dresses from the eighties.
The stall owners usually pick things up at estate sales and they sell some amazing dresses from the sixties and seventies.
