[Evening kittens, after being informed by my blog email that my site has now reached 29 hits a day ( wowee my regular blog gets that many hits a month) I've decided we've developed a trusting relationship and I'm going to tell you all one of my big secrets.
Three years ago while shopping with my fellow writing buddy Rhiannon ( place myspace link here) I discovered 718 George Street Sydney. Located in the china town district of George street the store has no official "name" its sign proclaiming its a seller of " Good quality discount clothing" however its so much more then that. This kids is where the cool kids go when they want to shop. By cool I don’t mean the Victoria Beckham types who will buy anything that’s retail price could support a third world country, I mean the real cool, the actual cool, the cool that starts trends.
Three years ago this store was selling the classic ultra tiny infamous denim "kilt" mini skirt for less then five dollars, which would be the staple wardrobe piece for every teenage girl by the following summer.
Two years ago it was the "emo" look and last winter it was the smock dress now being worn over tights.
But how does a discount clothing store manage this? well simple really they're really a factory outlet selling excess stock of cutting edge designs from Asia at rock bottom prices.
How rock bottom are you wondering? well I'm talking about the core of the molten earth rock bottom I'm talking about a sale where you can pick out any three items for fifteen dollars.
By any three items for fifteen dollars rock bottom.
Yes fifteen dollars and these include cocktail dresses, jeans, winter jackets, vests, and blouses t-shirts and underwear.
For fifteen dollars I bought.
A snow-white crochet business jacket normally selling for 39:95.
A blood red Victorian button up blouse made out of cotton.
And the truly fantastically hip Sergeant Pepper style black and gray vest with satin lining that normally sells for 49.95.
If this wasn’t enough to tempt you the store contains racks of jewelry and handbags, the jewelry sells for five dollars while the bags are less then twenty.
The stores owner makes a fair big of cash selling the same necklace in a variety of colours to suite any style.
Feeling emo? it comes in ink black or jaffa lolly red.
Wanting something pretty for summer? then look no further this tropical white strand.
I've been told that this rainbow necklace is very people with the local gay community as well as being worn by fourteen-year-old schoolgirls.
The lady who owns the store is a lovely middle-aged woman who keeps the store open to eight thirty most nights and in busy seasons up until eleven! talk about a great work ethic. When I told her she was going to be featured on stingy stitches she almost tried to give me half her jewelry for free but I insisted on at least giving her some cash.
So ladies make me proud and visit 718 George Street as soon as you can!
