Stingy Stitches - by HeatherL

Stingy Stitches - August 2007

Dress like a star for forty dollars.

August 30th 2007 09:14
Now normally I'd rather be dead then dress like Lindsay Lohan however a couple of weeks ago when researching the maxi dress entry I found a picture of her wearing this.

This colourblock maxi dress is pure late seventies fun and with its lifesavers like pattern its guaranteed to make the flavor go on and on.
However I freaked at the price tag.
200 smackers for a sun dress? on my salary?
Two weeks later SES has stepped up the block, remember SES the amazing dress store that sells almost everything?
Well they've started selling an imitation colourblock dress for $39.95 and it fits like a dream.

SES PLEASE SAVE ME FROM DISTRESS

August 29th 2007 01:33
No girls I'm not referring to the state emergency services. I'm referring to a little known brand that over the past ten years has cropped up all over Sydney and the rest of Australia SES.
SES is a womens clothing lable imported from asia that sells high-end fashion at low end costs. Nothing in this store will set you back more then fifty dollars and due to the fact that their shops bring in huge quantities of clothing everything is on sale within less then a month.
Is a skirt too pricey for you at forty dollars? come back in two weeks and it will be ten. Trust me on this.
SES also stocks the fantastic label Princess Highway which is a cheap yet classy boho brand.

Last year I was able to pick up an indian silk Princess Highway skirt priced at forty dollars for wait for it...$4:95.
The best thing about SES is that their sales are so frequent the stock isnt actually out of style yet. SES also sells amazing wardrobe stables such as jackets, tshirts and work pants at rock bottom prices.

However when embarking on a trip to SES remember the following.

1: If you dont fit into one of their skirts or dresses you are NOT FAT. Apart from the Princess Highway label SES tends to make their clothes smaller then traditional Australian standards, my best advice is to go a size up.

2: Sometimes SES decides to go all experimental and take on weird slightly disturbing designs not even seen on the runway. This stuff usually ends up in the 2:95 bin but ask yourself do you really need a long Magenta and Coral t-shirt with fiant puffed sleeves and a frilly skirt?

3: Watch out for damages, quite a few girls are bit over enthusiastic in the changing room which leads to items being sold cheap because they're missing half the buttons or the skirt has a big rip in it.
Always check.

4: Make sure you get the sales girl to REMOVE the security tag I cant stress this enough. SES staff usually have to deal with long ques of customers and unless you check before you leave they usually forget.

In other news, this week on ebay,

One of the big things I love to do is buy cheap vintage on ebay.
This is how I manage to find many rare gems without having to spend a fortune at the fancy vintage clothing stores but I can also weed out all the rubbish.

Bringing the Maxi back. (LINK)

August 26th 2007 01:45
Once in a far away decade known as the seventies a dress was created that embodied the spirit of an entire generation. Free flowing and fun it hid all sorts of little sins like heavy thighs and saggy bottoms drawing attention towards the chest and neck area.
It was whimsical, free flowing and almost princess like.
It was the Maxi dress and now ladies its back

When you're fab you're fab

My name is Heather and I’m stingy when it comes to clothing which is a secret I’ve carried these past eight years.
Now such a confession would lead you to believe that I resemble a homeless bag lady living outside a McDonalds but nothing can be further from the truth.
I’m stingy but I’m also stylish
