How to be an INDIE IT GIRL.

November 17th 2007 00:55
1: Never actually set foot into a real clothing store or even an upmarket vintage shop, Instead go to Saint Vinnie's and buy anything that even remotely fits.

2: Wear it all together and I do mean ALL OF IT. Wear straw hats with evening dresses and over sized sunglasses, ski boots with mini skirts and big plastic jewelery.

3: Ignore what suites you. No self respecting Indie It Girl would ever wear a dress that LOOKS NICE on her.

4: As for your hair it can go one or both ways, one obsess with past time periods and style your hair as if your DITA VONTEESE. Or forget about styling your hair and just attend the red carpet with the air of someone whose jumped out of bed.

Cup day on a stingy budget.

November 6th 2007 07:57
Last night I was informed by my boss that starting this year my office will have a mandatory Melbourne Cup day tea party WITH race course dress.
I panicked, I've never been to any races before and yet like a modern cinderalla I managed to win the best dressed prize.
On a budget of thirty dollars

Therine and Feven Newtown

November 3rd 2007 11:54
One of the things I've always loved about Newtown is that if you go away for two months you'll come back and find at least five new fly by night outlet stores. Of course they'll be gone again within a month or two so you have to act fast. Yesterday I went on an epic journey to find my mother a birthday present and I walked into Therine and Feven a new jewelery store on King Street determinded to buy a nice set of earings. The first sales girl I spoke to could barely understand english but she informed me the earrings I purchased for thirty nine dollars were silver plated.
Fair enough.
Then much to my shock the second salesgirl informed me that they were in fact WHITE GOLD earrings

Lets be generous.

October 30th 2007 11:28
Recently Kate Moss appeared at Fashion Rocks a worthwhile benifit wearing a crystal covered flapper dress worth $92,000 dollars.
Lets hope that the entire 92,000 will be donated to charity.

Big W goes upmarket.

October 27th 2007 08:18
So like all big name stores Big W has jumped on the bandwagon by launching its own exclusive label " Carasoul" what are my thoughts exactly. It's a mish mash of the good the bad and the ugly. The style tends to travel from the fun bright colours and whimiscal nature of the seventies to the sheer what the hell tackiness of the eighties.
The bad thing is there website is only really showing the less then stellar efforts.

Shout out to Jason Bell designs.

October 24th 2007 12:10
So where can a person by a quirky necklace made out of tiny orange crabs floating in clear glass or a ring made entirely out of clusters of sardine heads? No not the garbage but rather Jason Bell designs.
Jason Bell creates his designs by preserving them forever in resin creating some one the weirdest quirkiest and prettiest stuff I've seen in ages. He'll be at Glebe Markets until Christmas and you can order his website on.

The thong song.

October 20th 2007 11:57
Just a quick update because I've discovered the holygrail of thongs. Years ago I saw a girl wearing a pair of thongs that had a fake weaved bamboo affect and I lusted after them instantly, how beach chick! of course it turned out you had to buy them in bali. However today I discovered Kmart is currently selling weaved style thongs with leather straps in shades of bright red, black and white.
The best part is their only $5.95!

Designer Rentals. (LINK)

October 17th 2007 00:48
Every single chick magazine I’ve read this month has bombarded me with shout outs to www.lovemeandleaveme.com the website where you can apparently rent designer items at a fraction of their cost. The website is simple, members can rent a designer item on a weekly or monthly basis then send it back once they are done.
But is it really that simple?
The first rule of fashion is if you are wearing something that doesn’t belong to you chances are within three hours it will be, stolen, trashed or covered in some one else’s vomit
